A Gray Television poll puts Governor Edwards ahead of Eddie Rispone 48-46 percent with five days until voters hit the polls for the run-off.

Only six percent of voters remain undecided, a number LSU Poli Sci Professor Robert Hogan says is remarkably low for a major statewide election.

Cut 4 (09) “…voted.”

490,000 voters cast ballots in the early voting period, a record for a non-Presidential election.

The poll shows a nine-point gender gap between Rispone and Edwards when it comes to women, and a seven-point gap in favor of Rispone among men. Hogan says expect that split to remain…

Cut 5 (11) “…race.”

39 percent of white voters approve of the job the Governor is doing, but only 28 percent say they plan to vote for him. Hogan says the Democratic Edwards is running into major partisan opposition…

Cut 6 (08) “Republican.”

88 percent of black voters approve of Edwards’ tenure.

Today marks the beginning of a brutally cold stretch of winter weather in Louisiana with temperatures near freezing in the south and wind advisories and freeze warnings for parts of the north.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says a cold front has moved through the area, bringing with it an arctic blast that’s here to stay.

Cut 7 (11) “…morning.”

Wind gusts could hit as high as 30 miles per hour in north Louisiana this morning, with widespread frost expected tonight.

Keim says it’s time to wrap the pipes, bring in the pets, and dust off your heaviest coats while we endure the first true winter weather of the season.

Cut 8 (10) “…freezing.”

Keim says don’t put those winter coats away any time soon either, because we may not see a return to warmer weather until next week.

Senator John Kennedy continues to address the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.  While speaking in Baton Rouge Monday, Kennedy says Representative Adam Schiff’s role as the lead investigator in the inquiry is stacking the deck against fairness to the President.

Cut 10 (08) “…very unfair process.”

Kennedy says if the case is properly analyzed, the results will come down to whether the President had a good faith basis for believing in the possible corruption involving former Vice President Joe Biden’s son’s business dealings in Ukraine.

Cut 11 (11) “…for the money.”

Kennedy says the transparency of the whistleblower’s testimony is vital for the impeachment inquiry.

Cut  12 (10) “…behind closed doors.”

College Football Playoff rankings are due out tonight and after their big win in Tuscaloosa LSU is hoping to slide into pole position at number one, possibly for the rest of the season.

Many Tigers fans were shocked to see Ohio State take the top position last week, despite LSU’s record against top ten teams. CBS Sports-dot-com analyst Jerry Palm says the Tigers clearly proved a point.

Cut 13 (11) “…this week”

Ohio State is undefeated with a number of blowout wins against teams in the Top 25, but unlike LSU, no victories against Top 10 opponents.

Alabama meanwhile takes its only loss of the season against what will likely be it’s only Top Ten ranked team of the year. Palm expects them to fall out of the race for a playoff spot this week.

Cut 14 (07) “ahead”

LSU could probably make the playoffs even if they lose another game this year, but Palm says the team has a lot of incentive to keep the pedal to the floor.

Cut 15 (11) “…Phoenix.”

LSU’s offense is the envy of nearly every team in college football after spending much of the last decade as a below-average unit. Some of the credit goes to new passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who could receive offers from other schools during the offseason. Coach Ed Orgeron is confident he’ll be able to retain Brady…

Cut 16  (13)  …keep him’.

LSU’s win over Alabama put the Tigers in a great position to make the college football playoffs. And there’s a chance they could face the Crimson Tide again in the postseason. Orgeron expects his team will stay focused on the next team…

Cut 17  (15)  let it go”

LSU is at Ole Miss Saturday. The Rebels are 4-and-6 and their strength is running the football. They average 247 yards rushing a game. Orgeron says his front seven will have to play well…

The Saints are recovering from their shocking 26-9 loss to Atlanta in the Dome Sunday, and are hard at work making sure the same sloppy play that plagued them in that loss doesn’t follow them to Tampa.

Coach Sean Payton says the film from Sunday’s loss was pretty nasty, but everyone on the team has to take their medicine and correct the mistakes that lead to their season-high 12 penalties.

cut 19 (18), some point”

The Black and Gold were hit with four Illegal Use of Hands to the Face, two False Starts, and one each of six different other penalties throughout the game.

Payton isn’t too worried about the loss though, he expects the team to bounce back nicely against Tampa this weekend because of the team’s exceptional leaders.
