New Orleans officials are calling Sunday afternoon’s attempt to demolish the crane towers at the Hard Rock Hotel collapse a success. Following the detonation, there are still remnants of the cranes over Canal Street and on the ground on Rampart Street, but officials are saying the building is now safer than it has been in days.

The state’s latest tally of hepatitis A cases is up to just shy of 600, the highest case count in twenty years.  It’s part of a larger nationwide outbreak.  Louisiana Department of Health immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says the ailment, which is a highly contagious liver infection, can be spread easily through close contact, adding it is nothing to take lightly.

The average number of cases each year in the state is 10 to 15 cases.

Second ranked LSU started slow, but eventually cruised to another SEC road victory as the Bayou Bengals scored 27 unanswered points on their way to a 36-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.
