An area of low pressure just off the Yucatan Peninsula has medium chance of developing into a tropical depression and possibly a tropical storm according to the National Weather Service. NWS Slidell Meteorologist Michael Hill says forecasts show the system moving away from Mexico, and heading towards the central Gulf coast this weekend.

For the first time, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is doing in-state testing on harvested deer for the presence of chronic wasting disease, which has been found in deer in surrounding states.LDWF’s Johnathan Bordelon says the disease is a neurological infection that can be spread multiple ways, including deer to deer.

Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards and his Republican challenger Eddie Rispone have both released commercials as their run-off campaigns ramp up. Political consultant Roy Fletcher estimates 20-million dollars could be spent over the next month and the money will pour in from both national parties and governor associations, along with additional funding from partisan actors like George Soros and Charles Koch….

The October 12th ballot saw 77 women running for legislative seats, but U-L Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Louisiana will continue to have fewer women in the legislature than the national average….
