A new law signed in California will allow college athletes to be paid for the use of their image, name or likeness, starting in 2023. LSU QB Joe Burrow says the legislation is a step in the right direction for athletes.

The Ragin Cajuns and head football coach Billy Napier have agreed to a contract extension that keeps Napier on contract through the 2023 season. UL-Lafayette is off to a four-and-one start, after winning the Sun Belt Conference Western Division last season. The Cajuns next game is a Wednesday, October ninth, versus Appalachian State.

ULM hosts 23rd ranked Memphis this Saturday. The Tigers are 4-and-0, while the Warhawks are coming off a 30-17 win over South Alabama. Memphis is believed to be the first ranked opponent to visit Malong Stadium in the NCAA Football Subdivision Era. Kick-off is at 2:45.

The Saints will begin preparations for Tampa Bay tomorrow. The Bucs are coming off an upset win over the Rams and remember last season.

In the high school football polls, Calvary Baptist has moved to the Top spot in Class One-A. John Curtis is number one in Five-A, while St. Thomas More is number one in Four-A. The Cougars host the Catholic Bears on Friday as Catholic is ranked second in Five-A.
