Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the state has a 500-million dollar surplus from last fiscal year. Previous estimates were for a 300-million dollar surplus. Dardenne credits higher-than-expected corporation and personal income tax collections. Republican lawmakers say the state can afford to give out tax cuts.
