AAA says 939 people died as a result of a driver running a red light last in 2017, the most recent year those numbers were available. AAA spokesperson Don Redman says that’s a ten year high, and it’s not just restricted to the more densely packed states.

One-third of respondents in an AAA survey admitted to running a red light in the last 30 days, even though 85 percent said they thought it was a dangerous activity.
