Legendary New Orleans music producer Dave Bartholomew, the man who found and Fats Domino, has passed away yesterday at 100 years old. Louisiana Music Hall of Fame Executive Director Mike Shepard says Bartholomew helped refine the musicians of New Orleans Big Beat and make them world famous in the 50s.

Bartholomew co-wrote most of Fats’ hits, and was the famous pianists’ band leader as he toured the world.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a Bunkie man accused of stabbing a wedding guest at a reception on Saturday night. The argument escalated and the suspect is accused of plunging a large knife into the stomach of the victim.  Deputy Chief Steven Martel  says the two people involved had previously not seen eye to eye.

The intense summer heat is upon us in the Bayou State and according to state climatologist temps will be higher than normal this summer. The elderly population might not be able to get help when the heat reaches dangerous levels, and Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joseph Kanter says it’s especially important that you check in on them this time of year.

Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in May, a .6 percent drop year to year, and a .1 percent drop from March. Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Dejoie says the state has 2,600 fewer unemployed than last month, and 12,000 since last year. She says in total it’s a record for the decade.
