A Houma man, whose two young children died in a house fire last March, has been sentenced to two years in prison. 22-year-old Romell Welsh Sr. accepted the sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of negligent homicide in the deaths of 2-year-old Romell Welsh Jr. and 1-year-old Ro’Miya Welsh. Authorities say the children were home alone when a fire broke out in the kitchen due to burning clothing left in the trash.

Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson’s former heirs have filed a lawsuit claiming he is mentally and physically unfit to manage his personal and business affairs. This comes a day after Benson announced his wife will assume ownership of his sports teams when he dies. Legal analyst Tim Meche says the complainants will have to come up with evidence that Benson is too handicapped to handle his affairs…

Benson says he is extremely disappointed by the lawsuit.

Now that the New Orleans City Council has approved a ban on smoking in bars and casinos, will the Louisiana legislature follow suit? West Monroe Representative Frank Hoffman says a similar ordinance went into effect in all of Ouachita Parish last January and it’s been well received by bar owners…
