Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party Karen Carter Peterson has admitted to a gambling problem after she received a misdemeanor citation last month at the L’auberge Casino Resort in Baton Rouge. The state senator was issued the citation because she violated a Self-Inclusion Program to address gambling issues offered by Louisiana State Police. Peterson stated the summons never should have been leaked. “Unfortunately, I am having to publicly divulge these very personal challenges as a result of a breach in the confidentiality of the program.”

The Bayou State will host the SEC gymnastics championships on Saturday for the first time since 1998. Two sessions of competition will take place at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday at 3 PM. Seven new outpatient addictions treatment clinics have now opened in South Louisiana. In recent years, the opioid crisis has hit Louisiana hard. Lake Wellness Center spokesperson Amy Jones says what sets these new clinics apart is the ability to receive care in an outpatient setting.
