Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party Karen Carter Peterson has admitted to a gambling problem after she received a misdemeanor citation last month at the L’auberge Casino Resort in Baton Rouge. Peterson stated “It is a disease. From time to time I have relapsed”. Peterson was issued the citation because she violated a Self-Inclusion Program to address gambling issues offered by Louisiana State Police.

Seven new outpatient addictions treatment clinics have now opened in South Louisiana. In recent years, the opioid crisis has hit Louisiana hard. Lake Wellness Center spokesperson Amy Jones says Louisiana averages 122 prescriptions per 100 people.
