Starting next school year, the Avoyelles Parish School System will become the second school district in the state to have classes just four days a week, instead of five. Superintendent Blaine Dauzat says a primary reason for the change is to attract more teachers to Avoyelles Parish, which is last in the state for teacher salaries..

Dauzat says starting in August an extra hour will be added to each school day and classes will be held Tuesday through Friday.
