Anthony Davis has reportedly submitted an official trade request to the Pelicans, and has informed the team that he will not be resigning with the franchise after his contract expires in 2020.

It’s a sharp turn of events for the Pels, who appeared to be on their way to contention for the first time since the end of the Chris Paul era after last year’s series sweep of the Portland Trailblazers. But now the team sits 13th in the West at 22 and 28, Davis is injured, and the big market vultures are circling the carcass of a franchise that has failed to achieve sustained success despite possessing one of the top five players in the NBA.

Earlier this season, Davis was spotted at dinner with Lebron James, where James reportedly pitched the star forward on coming out West to join him in LA. The rumor mill is also putting the 76ers in the mix as well. Boston has long been thought to be a front runner for The Brow’s services, but any trade would have to wait until the summer due to league rule.
