The Mad Hatter agrees to a 1.5 million dollar contract settlement with LSU that frees him up to chase new job opportunities, whether on the field or silver screen. Les Miles had 6.5 million left on the contract he signed in 2005 that was cut short after he was fired in 2016. Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says it’s a coup for AD Joe Aleva.

Miles was making 133,000 a month to not work, but if he joined a new team, that money likely would have stopped.

The rumor mill is swirling with reports that say Miles is the front-runner to get the Kansas head coaching gig. Moran says there’s good reasons why his name tops the list, but now that he’s a free agent again, he may be tempted by better offers.

It doesn’t look like offensive tackle Terron Armstead will play as reports say he’ll miss three to four weeks with a pectoral injury. This means a likely start for Jermon Bushrod.

In other action Saturday. ULM is at Arkansas State, the Ragin Cajuns host South Alabama, Louisiana Tech is at Southern Miss, McNeese hosts Lamar.

For the first time since 2005 and only the second time in school history, Nicholls won a Southland Conference championship in football with a resounding 44-0 win in the River Bell Classic. Freshmen Julien Gums led a strong rushing attack with 121 yards and two touchdowns. The victory gives the Colonels an automatic berth in the FCS playoffs.

Also last night, Northwestern State won the annual battle for chief Caddo as the Demons downed Stephen F Austin. The Demons finish the year 5-6.
And Houston trounced Tulane 48-17 to end the Green Wave’s three-game winning streak.
