Tonight, LSU is set to unveil a statue of the school’s only Heisman Trophy Winner, the late Dr. Billy Cannon.  Matt Doyle has the story.

The CDC has released a new report that shows the rate of babies born with congenital syphylis has hit a 20 year high.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch says there’s been a 36-percent increase in filings of disability-access complaints from 2011 to 2016. Kevin Barnhart has more.

LSU is set to unveil a statue of the late Dr. Billy Cannon, the school’s only Heisman Trophy Winner. The ceremony happens tonight, one night ahead of the Tigers hosting Ole Miss.  Daughter of the LSU football legend, Bunnie Cannon, says the family looking forward to the unveiling.

Cannon talks about the moment when her father, who passed away in May, learned on the statue.

Cannon says her father did have some input on the statue’s design.

Billy Cannon is the first LSU football player to have a statue erected on the campus in his honor.

The CDC has released a new report that shows the rate of babies born with congenital syphilis has been on the rise throughout the United States.  Reported cases have jumped from 362 in 2013 to 918 in 2017.  When compared to other states, Louisiana ranks at the very top.  Administrator and Medical Director with the Louisiana Department of Health Dr. Joseph Canter…

Canter says the results can be quite devastating, including bone deformities, blindness, and cognitive developmental disabilities.

Canter says combatting the ailment is best done when constantly screening for it, as recommended by the CDC.

According to Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch, there’s been a 36-percent increase in the filing of disability-access complaints in Louisiana from 2011 to 2016. Executive Director Lana Venable says many of these are frivolous lawsuits directed at small businesses….

Venable says they often see serial plaintiffs in these cases going after minor violations and it doesn’t take much for a business to be out of compliance.

Venable says for businesses to protect themselves from lawsuits of the nature, it’s important they stay vigilant about their facilities.

Senator John Kennedy closed out yesterday’s questioning of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  In his opening remarks, he expressed his sympathy toward Kavanaugh, his family, Dr. Christine Ford, and her family for what they had all been through recently.

Kennedy then told Kavanaugh he was going him one more opportunity to answer for the allegations as he put it, “in front of God and country.”

Drew Brees says he’s looking forward to playing a pair of New Orleans boys in Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. this weekend as the Saints take a trip up north to play the Giants in New York. Drew’s gotten to know the two after living in the Crescent City for over a decade since joining the Black and Gold, which can occasionally lead to some funny moments…

LSU and Ole Miss renew their rivalry on Saturday as the 5th ranked Tigers host Ole Miss. Tonight is the unveiling of the Billy Cannon statue outside Tiger Stadium. Cannon’s magical punt return for a touchdown in 1959 is the signature play of this series. Coach Ed Orgeron says its fitting that Cannon’s statue will be unveiled tonight and the 1958 national championship will be recognized on Saturday….
