A former sergeant in the k-9 Unit of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison and one year of supervised release on his guilty plea to violating the civil rights of a detainee.  David Prejean previously admitted during a guilty plea hearing that he acted without legal justification when he commanded his K-9 to bite the detainee, then striking the detainee several times.  The incident took place in 2012.

 

While in Lake Charles today, Governor John Bel Edwards welcomed the Houston Rockets to the area. The NBA team will hold training camp practice this week at the new on-campus arena at McNeese State University. Edwards says the Rockets are impressed with the new health and human performance complex…

At a 5.9 percent increase, Louisiana has seen a relatively strong growth in personal income in the second quarter of 2018, ranking second in the nation only to Texas at 6%.  The construction sector was responsible for most of the growth.  LSU economist Dr. Loren Scott says two things really stick out.
