LSU’s Joe Burrow was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Cole Tracy earned the league’s special teams player of the week honors. Burrow was 15 of 34 for 249 yards, while Tracy made three field goals, including the 42-yard game winner.

The Browns have released kicker Zane Gonzales. He missed four kicks in the Saints 21-18 win over Cleveland. And Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata will appeal the 40-thousand dollar fine he faces for two roughing-the-passer penalties he was hit with in the season opener.

After beating Nicholls State, McNeese climbed seven spots to number nine in the STATS F-C-S poll. The Cowboys are off to a 3-0 start. Also, senior linebacker B-J Blunt was named the STATS National Defensive Player of the Week as well as Southland Defensive Player of the week as he recorded three sacks, four tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble.

Northwestern State Quarterback Shelton Eppler is the offensive player of the week. The junior threw for 474 yards and six touchdowns for the Demons.

And Nicholls is now ranked 18th following its loss to McNeese.

In the high school football polls, the top ranked teams remain the same…John Curtis, Karr, University, Notre Dame and Kentwood. In Four-A, Bastrop has moved into the Top 10 and is ranked 10th. In Three-A, Iota is also ranked as they come in at number 10.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed veteran guard Jarrett Jack to a non-guaranteed contract. If Jack makes the roster, it will be a third time he’s played with the franchise during his 13-year career. Last year he played for the Knicks and averaged eight points and six assists for the Knicks.
