Louisiana Treasury Secretary John Schroder estimates the state will have an over 300 million dollar budget surplus from last year after revenues out performed expectations. There’s tight, constitutional limits on just how this cash can get spent, which means it can’t be dropped straight into the state general fund for this year, but Treasurer John Schroder says after surveying the options, he’s got a few recommendations.

The Edwards administration says any estimates before the the audit is finished in october are premature.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Winnsboro man had roadkill in the cooler of his restaurant and then took it home to butcher it L-D-W-F’s Adam Einck says  the man heard law enforcement were on the case and apparently tried to hide the evidence…

LDH says inspectors did not find any wild game in coolers or freezers at the Garden Hen in Winnsboro.

A bill that would increase the share of offshore energy revenues for Gulf States sailed out of a U-S House committee with little opposition. States with land-based energy production receive a substantially higher percentage of revenues than states that support offshore drilling. Congressman Garret Graves says the additional revenues would pay for flood protection projects.

And the Tigers are on their way to Auburn for a clash of SEC West titans in a game that will feature two of the best defenses in college football. LSU has some huge questions along its offensive line after Miami and Southeastern set up some lawn chairs and had a cookout in the Tigers backfield.
