Volunteers with The United Cajun Navy are currently in North Carolina as the area is experiencing massive flooding from Hurricane Florence. Founder of the group, Todd Terrell says the crew has already lent a helping hand with well over 100 rescues.
Terrell adds those that want to help can make donations via the United Cajun Navy’s Facebook page.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Winnsboro man had roadkill in the cooler of his restaurant and then took it home to butcher it. 61-year-old Somchanh Chanthapanya was cited for possession of a spotted fawn. L-D-W-F’s Adam Einck says the investigation started when a Franklin Parish sheriff’s deputy saw the spotted fawn in the cooler at a restaurant called the Garden Hen. He says the man heard law enforcement were on the case and apparently tried to hide the evidence…
A bill that would increase the share of offshore energy revenues for Gulf States sailed out of a U-S House committee with little opposition. Currently, states with land-based energy production receive a substantially higher percentage of revenues than states that support offshore drilling. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says it’s been frustrating to see the feds scoop up most of the tax revenue generated by offshore drilling. The congressman says in 2016, the feds gathered 99 percent of all offshore revenues, which just wasn’t the case for land based drilling.
