The Saints have released veteran linebacker Nate Stupar, even though he had a productive preseason camp coming off a torn ACL last year. New Orleans needed to let Stupar go so they can sign former Patriots running back Mike Gillislee.

After its big win over Kansas on Saturday, Nicholls State has moved to 10th in the F-C-S Coaches Poll. McNeese also moved up a few spots after beating Northern Colorado. The Cowboys are ranked 14th. The Colonels are at Tulane this Saturday. McNeese is at Houston Baptist.

Louisiana Tech defensive back James Jackson has been named Conference USA defensive player of the week. Jackson had six tackles, half a sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in the Bulldogs road win over South Alabama. The Bulldogs host Southern this Saturday.

Jaguars Coach Dawson Odums announced that John Lampley will start at quarterback again for Southern, even though he completed just five passes in a 55-7 loss to 16th ranked TCU.

The Pelicans have signed restricted free agent guard Tyrone Wallace to an offer sheet. Wallace averaged nearly 10 points and 4 rebounds and two assists in 30 games with the Clippers last season. Los Angeles has a couple days to match the offer.
