College football fans have been waiting for this day since January, the first Saturday of the college football season. Also at six o’ clock, the Ragin Cajuns host Grambling. UL-Lafayette is seeking its first winning season in four years, while the Tigers are expected to start Geremy Hickbottom at quarterback.

Several F-C-S schools in Louisiana have tough challenges on the road today. Southern is at 16th ranked TCU. Nicholls is at Kansas. The Colonels return 18 starters from a team that went 8-4 last year. McNeese visits Northern Colorado from the Big Sky Conference. The Bears were 3-7 last year, while James Tabary enters his third season as the starting Q-B for the Pokes.

The LSU football team will leave Baton Rouge today for tomorrow night’s season opener against Miami. Head Coach Ed Orgeron said they still don’t know who will start at left cornerback or right tackle, but he says Joe Burrow was more sure of himself at practice, since being named the starting quarterback.

The Saints have until 3 PM today today to reduce their roster to 53. Veteran receivers Brandon Tate and Michael Floyd have both already been cut. Running back Shane Vereen has been placed on injured reserve and the Saints are reportedly shopping veteran linebacker Nate Stupar.
