Vice President Mike Pence is in New Orleans for a fundraising event with Southeast Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise who reportedly is eying a run at Speaker of the House, a position that may not be available to him if Republicans tank the midterms. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says hosting a fundraiser for other party members is a great way for the Jefferson Parish Republican to build goodwill for future attempts to climb the political ladder.

A Shreveport woman was surprised to find out she was granted a divorce even though she was not seeking one, and now her husband, 27-year-old Demario Clark, is in jail.  Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick states Clark now has a new girlfriend, 50-year old Lisa McKinney, and she’s facing legal issues too.

Louisiana is one of only five states without a statewide rideshare policy that would allow companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in any city. Rideshare legislation crashed and burned in the Senate after parliamentary maneuvers by Senate President John Alario. The Advocate reports Alario has a close friend, former legislator Francis Heitmeier, in the cab industry. UL Lafayette Poli Sci Professor Pearson  Cross says those kinds of sweetheart deals to local businesses are common, and if you think this legislature would pass it, think again.

Two Springhill men are under arrest for possession of a substantial amount of child pornography. 44-year-old Bo Skywalker Roberts is facing two counts of child porn possession, and 54-year-old Joe Palmer is looking at 200 counts of possession, and 40 counts of distribution. State Police Trooper Glenn Younger says the men were arrested in two separate investigations.
