A mother was stabbed to death 29 times while pushing her one-year-old son in a stroller in Gretna. That’s according to authorities who say the suspect 41-year-old Damone Ussin, and the victim 35-year-old Tarniel Gray of Gretna had a dating relationship. Ussin has been arrested for second degree murder and Gretna Captain Russell Lloyd says the scene created by the vicious act was hard to swallow…

Lloyd says the child was not injured and the little boy was discovered crying next to his deceased mother.

Governor John Bel Edwards continues to defend what he called progress in reducing the state’s inmate population. Critics have pointed out that some of the released have been rearrested, including for homicide, but Edwards says the number of people released under the program who’ve been rearrested is still under the national average of 40 percent.

The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the US increased by 13 this week to 1,057. Six of those rigs that went active were in Louisiana. At this time a year ago, there were 949 active rigs. The U-S Rig number bottomed out in May of 2016. Only 404 of them were active at that time.
