John Bel Edwards and a handful of other governors meet with President Donald Trump today in New Jersey to discuss criminal justice reform. Louisiana overhauled its sentencing laws last year and it’s led to a lower inmate population. Edwards also has his eyes on re-election next year, but ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says if Edwards thinks meeting with a president popular with conservatives will help sway Louisiana GOP voters, he’ll probably be disappointed….

Two potential challengers to the governor’s re-election bid are outspoken of the governor’s criminal justice reform efforts.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal police shooting in Shreveport that claimed the life of 26-year-old Michael Ducote. Officers were attempting to stop Ducote, who was allegedly driving a Chevy Impala that did not belong to him. Corporal Marcus Hines says Ductoe put the Chevy in reverse, crashing into a marked patrol unit, which led to officers firing shots at Ducote. One fatal bullet struck him in the upper body.

State Police say 22-year-old Abbie Sinitiere (sin-eh-tear-E) of Franklin and her one-year-old son are dead after they were hit by an alleged impaired driver in Iberia Parish. Master Trooper Brooks David (DAH-veed) says 25-year-old Dylan Leblanc of Youngsville lost control of his vehicle on US-90 Tuesday night…
