Former longtime state Rep. Johnny McFerren of Stonewall has died. McFerren was serving as a member of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.l He served four terms at state representative of district 7. He’s preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Patsy, who died in 2016.
Emerge Louisiana, an organization dedicated to recruiting and training Democratic women to run for office, has announced it has seen nine of its alumnae qualify for the 2018 elections. Spokesperson for the organization, Melanie Oubre, says they are seeing candidates that have completed the 70 hours of training run in a wide variety of races, including Tammy Savoie, who is running against Steve Scalise for US Congress.
A hit and run involving two vehicles in Monroe has a 59 year old woman dead. The preliminary investigation revealed that Emma Crew of West Monroe was attempting to walk across Highway 165 when she was hit by the driver’s side mirror of a southbound Chrysler 300. LSP Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says Crew fell in the radio after being hit by the mirror of the first vehicle, but then took a second impact from a white truck that he says authorities are on the lookout for.
