US Senator Kennedy is proposing an amendment to the national farm bill that would require SNAP users to have a valid photo ID.

The LSU board of supervisors has selected twelve innovations to support with grant money.  The funds are the result royalties from the licensing of earlier inventions and innovations from the university.  CEO of the LSU Research and Technology Foundation, Arthur Cooper, explains how the selection process takes place. Among the innovations that obtained funding included oyster flavoring, as well as biodegradable Mardi Gras beads.

Louisiana has seen gains in child well-being, but those gains could be reversed if an undercount of children takes place with the upcoming census.  The latest KIDS COUNT Data Book ranked Louisiana 49th in overall child well-being. KIDS COUNT manager at Agenda for Children Teresa Falgoust says child poverty is on the rise in the state.

Among the other statistics, the Falgoust says there has been some nice gains in on-time high school graduation rates.

 

A 17-year-old suspect is in custody in Morehouse Parish following arson allegations. Marquarious Williams fled to McKinney, Texas in 2017 after the incident at Bastrop high where he allegedly set a fire in a bathroom after school hours. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says the fire marshal’s office, unfortunately, has a lot of experience dealing with school arson, something they see several times a month.

Williams currently awaits prosecution.
