Senator John Kennedy has sponsored an amendment to the Senate Farm Bill that would require SNAP program recipients to show a photo ID during a transaction. Kennedy highlighted one incident in New York in which someone committed food stamp fraud for over 5 years, getting thousands in benefits.

Opponnts argue implantation would make it more difficult for legal food stamp users to utilize their card, due to the expenses associated with obtaining a photo ID.

The latest KIDS COUNT Data Book ranked Louisiana 49th in overall child well-being, despite improvements since 2010 in nine of the 16 measures tracked in the annual report. KIDS COUNT manager at Agenda for Children Teresa Falgoust says the child poverty rate is on the rise.

The LSU board of supervisors has selected twelve innovations to support with grant money.  The funds are the result royalties from the licensing of earlier inventions and innovations from the university.  CEO of the LSU Research and Technology Foundation, Arthur Cooper says another concept that received funding is one for the taste buds: an oyster flavoring.
