On a second try, the Louisiana House approves a bill that would levy a one-third penny state sales tax and eliminate some sales tax breaks for business. The measure would raise nearly 370-million dollars, which is less than what Governor Edwards is seeking to address a 648-million dollar shortfall. House GOP Caucus Chairman Lance Harris calls the measure a compromise, because it softens some proposed cuts, while forcing state government to reduce its size. State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lafayette at Super Seven Inn and Suites near Interstate 10. It’s been reported the officer was not injured and one person was taken to a local hospital.
