Saturday’s Powerball jackpot and tonight’s Mega-Millions drawing are some of the largest jackpots the history of the multi-state lottery games.  Louisiana Lottery spokesman Dustin Annison says a lot of money is on the line…

Annison says very few people are lucky enough to win the large jackpots, but plenty of players win smaller prizes. He says several won in Louisiana earlier this week…

The 96th Louisiana State Police cadet class will graduate today with 27 men and women being assigned to the ten different troops around the state.  Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the new troopers will help drivers throughout the Bayou State…

This was the first time in many years that LSP conducted two cadet classes at the same time.  As the 96th is wrapping up, the 97th class began their over 20 week training program with much larger class.  Sandifer says there are many who want to have a career in law enforcement…

Even though nothing is scheduled yet, Sandifer says they are looking to begin recruiting for the 98th class…

46 men and women were assigned from the 95th cadet class that graduated last April.

A television series about the life of the men and women who live in the wilds of Louisiana will begin airing on a new channel this weekend. The Discovery Channel has signed “Out Da’ Bayou” for 13 episodes after five years on CST and the Sportsman Channel. Host John Jackson says the show puts you right in the middle of some of the toughest jobs in the state, like catching swordfish…

Jackson says even if you were born and raised in the bayou, you’ll probably learn something new about your home state…

Cut 11 (12) “Mississippi River.”

The show has taken Jackson across the state, hunting wild hogs and wading through deep swamps. He says he’ll never forget one moment in particular…

The show airs Saturdays at 7:30am.

The arctic blast is expected to start receding this weekend, sending the state back to its usual mild winter weather. Low temperatures this week sat in the lower 20s for much of Louisiana. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s one of the coldest weeks on record…

The state has seen a recent surge with house fires and shattered pipes because of the cold weather. Keim says that should end soon…

Keim says the cold weather snap was particularly surprising given the long term forecasts for the winter…
