State Police say the man who exchanged gunfire with a a Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy early yesterday morning has been identified as 36-years-old Dusty Sanders of Bastrop. Sanders was shot and remains in a hospital. But once discharged, he’ll be charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer. The deputy was not injuried.

The number of officers killed in the line of duty in Louisiana and around the country in 2017 dropped from 2016. Louisiana saw five killed this year, while nine were killed last year.
