Secretary of State Tom Schedler is today slated to once again testify before a US House committee that there is no need to worry that elections in Louisiana are being hacked by Russians. He says he plans to remind the panel that no state votes online…:

Cut 4  (08) “underlying issue”

Schedler says the main concern is over online voter registration lists, but Louisiana was not one of the states identified as a target of hackers during last year’s election. He says when someone registers to vote online, they are behind a firewall and all information is kept private:

Cut 5  (07)  “monitoring it”

Concern over Russia meddling in last years election has been a hot topic since President Donald Trump took office. But Schedler says that issue involved Facebook and other sites producing so-called “fake news” in an attempt to influence voters. He says that’s completely different from the ballot box, but major news networks are complicating the matter…:

There is an oral device that could help overweight adults lose weight.  It’s called the SmartByte system and it is a noninvasive, removable medical device used only when eating.  Interim Director of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge Dr. Donna Ryan explains how it works…

Cut 7 (11)  “your mouth.”

Slowing food consumption has been shown to reduce food intake, thus making you feel as full even though you ate less in the same amount of time.  Ryan explains the biological factors that take place when using the device…

Cut 8 (12) “eating now.”

Studies show that about 20-percent of those participating lost at least five-percent of their weight after 16 weeks without serious adverse effects.  Ryan says she hopes that SmartByte along with an educational video is approved for use in the Bayou State soon to help curb a disease she calls an epidemic…

Kyle Duncan, the Louisiana nominee for the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals seat will go before the Senate Judiciary committee today.  Attorney General Jeff Landry has been lobbying for Duncan, who was nominated by President Donald Trump. He says especially for conservatives, this is an easy selection.

Cut 10 (10)  “no brainer”

Senator John Kennedy sits on the committee and has yet to make a decision on if Duncan should be judge. Landry says it’s a bit odd that Kennedy is taking so long to decide on an individual with Duncan’s record and skill set.

Cut 11 (08) “Neil Gorsuch”

Many Democrats have come out to voice their disapproval of Duncan for his conservative stances on LGBT rights and abortion. But Landry says you’re not looking for someone with a political view to fill this position but someone to interpret the law.

The bill passed the Senate Budget Committee Tuesday 12-to-11 and heads to the Senate floor. Senator John Kennedy cites three benefits.

Cut 13 (09) “go up.”

The debate has gone on for several weeks as both sides of the aisle pour over proposals to make the tax code less confusing and bring benefits to corporations. Kennedy says sufficient time has passed for consideration of the bill and it’s time to get things done.

Kennedy says he supports a tax reform plan that will mean less money for government and more for taxpayers.

Cut 15 (10) “the economy.”

LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron has said he expects offensive coordinator Matt Canada will seek a head coaching job. Football analyst Mike Detillier says there appears to be a rift between Coach “O” and Canada and he believes the young play caller has coached his last game at LSU…

Cut 18 (18) “offensive coordinator somewhere”

Last Saturday, LSU’s offense had 601 yards of total offense against Texas A-and-M. But for the season, the Tigers rank 54th nationally in total offense, 72nd in scoring and 84th in passing. Detillier says Orgeron might not be a fan of all the shifting and motion that Canada’s offense displays…

Cut 19 (16)      he prefers”

If Canada leaves before the bowl game, Detillier expects Orgeron will name tight ends coach Steve Ensminger as the offensive coordinator. But Coach O would have to find someone to handle the play calling duties for the 2018 season…
