With his 347 yard passing performance in the victory over Texas A-and-M, LSU’s Danny Etling became the fifth quarterback to throw for over 2,000 yards in multiple seasons. Etling was the last LSU player to come down victory hill outside of Tiger Stadium before the regular season finale. He went on to have one of his best games. Etling is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. He completed passes to 10 different players as the Tigers had 601 yards of total offense against the Aggies.

Louisiana Tech senior linebacker Russell Farris has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. He had a career-high 13 tackles in the win over UTSA.

UL Lafayette Football Coach Mark Hudspeth is expected to make a decision today on who will start at quarterback this Saturday against Appalachian State. It will be either senior Jordan Davis who threw for 225 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions as he came off the bench in the 34-24 loss to Georgia Southern. Or it could be freshman Levi Lewis, who started against Georgia Southern, but was ineffective and replaced by Davis.

The Saints return to practice tomorrow to begin preparations for Sunday’s NFC South showdown against the Panthers. New Orleans beat Carolina earlier this year, but Panthers QB Cam Newton looks much healthier now. Both teams are 8-and-3 and tied for first place.

In college hoops tonight…Louisiana Tech is at 24th ranked Alabama. The Bulldogs are off to a 5-0 start, while the Crimson Tide are 5-and-1. Also, the Ragin Cajuns host McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana faces Loyola and ULM is home tonight to take on Jackson State.
