Officers say a three-year-old toddler has died as the result of an alleged accidental shooting in St. Martin Parish.  Police have arrested the uncle 28-year-old Dracolby Numa Journet of Arnaudville.  He has been charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Obstruction of Justice.  Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Major Ginny Higgins it is a tragic situation, not only for the family, but also for responding deputies…:

A 67-year-old grandmother is dead in Plaquemine after her grandson allegedly shot her by mistake.  Police say 19-year-old Blaise Horton reported he was holding a gun in a house when 67-year-old Kathleen Fulton was killed.  Police Chief Kenny Payne says Horton said he didn’t know there was a single bullet remaining in the chamber…

As we’re turning our clocks back an hour on Sunday for Daylight Saving Time, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says it is a good time to check your smoke alarm battery and think about switching to a different type.  He says if you get a smoke alarm with a lithium battery, the battery is already sealed inside and activates when installed on the ceiling.
