Jason Aldean will perform tonight at Champion’s Square in New Orleans at his first outside concert since the horrific Las Vegas shooting that left 58 people dead and 546 injured. General Manager of the Superdome and Champion’s Square Alan Freeman says they are looking at the tragedy as a onetime occurrence but safety is still their number one concern.

Freeman says they’ve had discussions with the security in Benson Tower and The Hyatt Regency, which both overlook Champion’s Square. He says if anyone is on top of keeping fans safe, it’s them.

Mid-Day anchor on Baton Rouge’s 100.7 The Tiger, James Gilmore, will be at tonight’s concert. Gilmore says he’s excited to attend but expects security will be extremely tight, as it’s Aldean’s first outside performance since the shooting.

Gilmore says Aldean has told fans he will not let the incident in Vegas stop him from performing. He says safety is always in the back of his mind when attending a concert.

A video series has been released by Governor John Bel Edwards to educate the public on the criminal justice reform legislation that goes into effect next Wednesday. 14-hundred non-violent offenders are set to be released. New Orleans Representative Walt Leger is featured in one the videos and the former prosecutor says there are many non-violent offenders that are better served receiving treatment for drug abuse or mental health issues…

The Reverend Gene Mills, President of the Louisiana Family Forum and a member of the Louisiana Justice Reinvest Taskforce, says his perspective of criminal reform mixed with biblical beliefs were eye opening for him in what can be accomplished…

Natalie LaBorde with the department of corrections says the governor’s effort to reduce the state’s largest incarceration rate in the world will in the end reduce cost to taxpayers and increase public safety…

Grambling State University President Rick Gallot says they are beefing up security, after a gunman killed two 23-year-old men from Farmerville after an altercation in a dorm room. Gallot says he spoke with Governor John Bel Edwards, who offered Grambling additional resources for the upcoming homecoming weekend.

Gallot says this was not a random shooting, as Earl Andrews and Monquiarious Caldwell were targeted. He says students should feel safe on campus.

A Grambling State student was shot in a separate incident last month. A student let another person into a dorm and there was an altercation that ended with a student being shot in the left arm. Gallot says Grambling is a gun free zone and residential life works hard to keep on campus housing as safe as possible.

The world continues to react to the death of New Orleans legend Fats Domino, who died at the age of 89.  New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival producer Quint Davis was a long-time friend of Domino and says the global star never forgot his roots, which was reflected in his music…

Domino sold over 110 million records and was first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Davis says Domino loved flashy clothes and shoes.  Even Davis was surprised at the wardrobe Domino carried about…
