An HIV positive man who had a job offer rescinded by the Iberia Parish Sherriff’s Office is now suing them for discrimination.  Michelle Southern has more.

What was to be a celebration with homecoming at Grambling State University has turned tragic after a student and his friend were shot dead early this morning.   The shooter remains at large.  The incident occurred in a courtyard on campus with the victims shot outside of a dorm room just after midnight. Director of Communications Will Sutton says police have identified the victims…

The shooting occurred just after midnight.  Sutton says they are trying to operate as normal.

Sutton says their police department and other law enforcement help keep Grambling a safe campus, but cautions that students and others need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

A Grambling State student was shot in a separate incident last month.  A student let another person into a dorm and there was an altercation that ended with a student being shot in the left arm.  The perpetrators in both shootings remain at large.

A lawsuit has been filed by Lambda Legal on behalf of William “Liam” Pierce after a job offer was allegedly rescinded by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office after a medical exam revealed Pierce was HIV positive. Lambda’s Scott Schoettes (shotis) says Pierce has made public service his life, going so far as relocating to Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina to help in recovery efforts.  Schoettes says his client is trying to understand why this happened…

The job offer was made and then rescinded in 2012, at which time he filed a charge of discrimination with the ADA and the EEOC.  But the lawsuit was just filed.  Schoettes says legal red tape has held this case up for five years…

Schoettes says that suit is asking for Pierce to be allowed to work for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office…

Legendary New Orleans singer, songwriter, and pianist Fats Domino passed away today at the age of 89. Domino was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and was a great influence for many Louisiana performers. Crescent City singer Phillip Manuel remembers the kind nature of Antoine “Fats” Domino…

Domino is best known for songs such as Ain’t That a Shame, Walking to New Orleans — and Blueberry Hill..

Tulane University has received a five-year 1.8-million-dollar grant to study a possible link between traumatic stress and alcohol abuse.  Researcher Jeff Tasker says humans with post-traumatic stress disorder are more likely to abuse alcohol than the general population and this project will provide insight into why.

Tasker believes there is a certain part of the brain that contributes to why some drink more than others during stressful situations.

Tasker says endogenous cannabis signaling system in your brain is responsible for assigning emotional responses to various experiences. He says they want to provide insight on what makes a person more likely to drink more after being exposed to a traumatic stress event.
