Governor John Bel Edwards has issued a statement on the passing of New Orleans legendary musician Fats Domino. Edwards says our hearts are heavy today, but we will always remember Domino’s love for life and New Orleans through his iconic music. Crescent City singer Phillip Manuel says Domino’s influence will live on for years to come…:

Domino, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, was 89.

Also in big Louisiana news today is the double homicide at Grambling State University. GSU spokesman Will Sutton says the shooter is at large, but this wasn’t terrorism and the campus is still open…:

The incident apparently stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the shooter and the victims.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is being sued by a man who claims he was offered a job as a deputy there five years ago, but later denied when the department discovered he had HIV. Police in south Bossier said they had to remove an 11-foot alligator from a road near Elm Grove before it could impede traffic. They said the gator had to be euthanized due to its size and dangers associated with trying to capture it alive.
