The New Orleans Police Department says one of their officers was shot and killed in the line of duty early this morning. Mayor Mitch Landrieu tweeted the news around 4am. NOPD says it was during a stop in New Orleans East when the officer saw something that caused him to exit his unit then a suspect opened fire; striking the cop several times. The suspect was also injured and was taken to a hospital. He will be charged.

The Boy Scouts of America have made the decision to allow girls into the organization and allow them to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Executive Director of the Boy Scouts of Southeast Louisiana Ernesto Carballo says change can be a good thing, and many don’t know the programs started out co-ed…:

University of Louisiana at Monroe has made a statement concerning offensive comments made on a private internet group exchange. President Nick Bruno says they have suspended the fraternity Kappa Sigma Pledge for the comments. Bruno says, he is quote “angry and embarrassed that students of the institution chose to conduct themselves in this manner.” He adds that a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate actions will be taken.
