The National Hurricane Center says Nate has made landfall at the mouth of the Mississippi River with maximum sustained winds at 85 miles per hour. National Weather Service Meterologist Mike Shields says Nate is heading north at around 20 miles per hour. He says this hurricane will make a second landfall later tonight along the Mississippi coast.

Shields says the biggest threat to Louisiana is storm surge, primarily in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parish. A turn towards the north-northeast is expected later tonight, followed by a motion toward the NE.
