Former Marskville Deputy City Marshal Norris Greenhouse Junior accepts a plea deal from the state attorney’s office. He will receive a seven a half year sentence for the 2015 fatal shooting of six-year-old Jeremy Mardis. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Greenhouse was facing life in prison on a second degree murder charge.

Governor John Bel Edwards is sending the National Guard to Puerto Rico to support recovery efforts from Hurricane Maria. And Edwards is also dispatching a small team to the Virgin Islands to assist after Hurricane Irma’s damage in that area. Mike Steele of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness says the governor is glad the state is able to provide this kind of support.

The Gulf Coast Patriot Network plans rallies in Shreveport this weekend to support keeping a Confederate monument at the Caddo Parish Courthouse. A public hearing to decide if the monument should be removed is coming on October 5th. Rally organizer Rex Dukes hopes for a big turnout, because Caddo Parish leaders are not listening to people.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says this is one of the driest September’s on record. He says statewide there’s been less one inch of rainfall this month and we usually see an average of over four inches for September. Keim says a lack of tropical activity explains the abnormally dry month….
