The Saints have released the team’s training camp schedule and outlined new procedures for fans who come to watch. Camp opens in Metairie on July 26th, and the first practice open to the public is July 29th. The New Orleans Saints 2017 Training Camp will feature a total of 11 practices open to the public at their Metairie Training Facility, including six on weekend mornings and seven workouts featuring a Fan Fest. This year, Black and Gold fans interested in attending any of the sessions will require a ticket for entry. They are free but you have to get them at neworleanssaints.com/trainingcamp on Friday, or starting tomorrow for season ticket holders.

Pelicans General Manager Mickey Loomis said on a New Orleans sports radio station that he believes the Pels are due for some success, and are expecting it. He says everything is in place to move the team in that direction now with DeMarcus Cousins joining Anthony Davis, and the re-signing of Jrue Holiday to a 5-year-deal. Plus the Pelicans have reportedly added Kentucky products Rajon Rondo and Darius Miller.

LSU linebacker Arden Key has been named to the 2017 Butkus Award Watch List. The award, named after Hall of Famer Dick Butkus, is given to the best linebacker in the country. Key is already named to the AP All-SEC first team and the Coaches All-SEC second team.

Louisiana Tech had two representatives named to the 2017 Conference USA Football Coaches Preseason Awards. O’Shea Dugas and Jaylon Ferguson both made the lineup which is voted on by the league’s head coaches.

LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux has been named the most Outstanding College Coach in Louisiana by the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. Breaux, the dean of Southeastern Conference coaches, completed her 40th season in 2017…which was the Tigers most dominant in school history. LSU finished as the NCAA National Runner-up for the 2nd straight year.

Former LSU baseball star Mikie Mahtook of Detroit went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer on Monday in an eventual win over the Royals 10-2. Mahtook’s hit into the fountains in left-centerfield was his fifth home run of the season.
