New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison responds to ideas presented by US Senator John Kennedy on ways to reduce crime in the city. Kennedy said in a news release this week that he secured a promise that the potential FBI director will help The Big Easy. The Senator says they need more cops on the streets which Harrison says they are addressing with pay raises:

Kennedy also suggested NOPD partner with surrounding agencies which Harrison says they already do.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, opioid prescription rates are dropping in Louisiana. But former FBI Director Louis Freeh warns federal loopholes could threaten that progress. He says legal prescriptions aren’t the only concern, as addicts will turn to other sources and he’s concerned gaps in federal laws would allow drug dealers to meet that demand…:

This year state lawmakers passed a package of bills aimed at reducing opioid prescriptions, including limiting first-time prescriptions.
A group of cyclists on a special 500 mile ride to honor law enforcement officers who were killed and wounded during the 2016 ambush shootings are making their way into Baton Rouge. The Texas Brotherhood comes from Dallas and consists of firefighters, EMTs, police officers and others, who come together for the journey to show that they will never forget about those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
