Two children were killed and a third child was seriously injured while walking to school this morning in the St. Martin Parish town of Breaux Bridge. State Police trooper Jared Sandifer says for an unknown reason a vehicle ran off the road, striking the children who were on their way to school….

Sandifer says one of the children was pronounced dead at the scene, the other on the way to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

A new study, by the advocacy group Oceana, shows a misrepresentation of shrimp across the United States. The report used DNA testing to examine 143 shrimp products and found that 30-percent were falsely labeled in 111 grocery stores and restaurants. Louisiana Shrimp Association President Clint Guidry says that 90% of the shrimp eaten in the US is imported…

The most common substitution found in the study was farmed whiteleg shrimp being sold as “wild” and “Gulf” shrimp.

A 26-year-old Natchitoches man was shot and killed yesterday in a shooting involving Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies who were trying to serve a protective order. Authorities say Robert Vercher and the deputies exchanged gunfire and Vercher was hit several times. Vercher was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The deputies have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
