MedStar Washington Hospital Center says Congressman Steve Scalise underwent surgery today for the management of infection. The hospital says Scalise tolerated the procedure well and he remains in serious condition. Scalise has been hospitalized since suffering a gunshot wound on June 14th.

A two-year-old Lockport boy is another child who has died in a rash of drownings around Louisiana. Lt. Brennan Matherne with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says on July 4th deputies responded to a call of a child found unresponsive in the bottom of a pool.
