A three-run fourth inning was the difference last night as Florida held on for a 4-3 victory over the LSU Tigers in Game 1 of the championship series of the CWS. LSU starting pitcher Russell Reynolds was excellent through three innings, but three consecutive walks in the 4th inning led to three Florida runs. LSU Coach Paul Mainieri wishes he took Reynolds out after the 3rd inning…
Cut 14 (10) “back fired”
LSU got the deficit down to one run on two different occasions, but couldn’t get the big hit off of Gators closer Michael Byrne, who earned his 19th save.

Tonight Jared Poche will start on the hill for the Tigers, looking for his 40th career victory.

Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley will not play football in 2017 because of a heart condition that has at least one doctor concerned it has gotten worse since he entered the league. The team has placed Fairley on the reserve-non-football injury list, which means he can’t play this season. It’s unclear if Fairley will be able to return to the football field again. He signed a four-year contract worth 28-million dollars this offseason after registering a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2016.

One of the top running backs in the state has flipped his commitment from UCLA to LSU. Many’s AJ Carter becomes the third running back verbal pledge in the Tigers 2018 class. The six-foot, 220 pound tailback is considered a three-star prospect after ushing for 22-hundred yards and 41 total touchdowns as a junior.

In basketball news….the Pelicans Anthony Davis has been named to the second team All-Defense team after averaging 2.2 blocks per game.
