Forecasters are still keeping an eye on the tropical depression moving across the state, as heavy rains persist around Louisiana. State climatologist Barry Keim says the system is weakening as it moves inland, but the threat isn’t over yet.

Tornado watches are in effect in south Louisiana until 10 pm.
Louisiana will get a new medical school, as the Board of Regents grants a license to New York Institute of Technology, which will be hosted on the ULM campus. ULM President Dr. Nick Bruno says the Stubbs Hall building on campus could be the new home of the med school.

ULM is also the only publicly funded pharmacy school in the state.
Five people are behind bars and another is dead following a shooting in Denham Springs late last night. Police say four suspects were taken into custody without incident, but one tried to flee. Deputies reportedly had to swim across high waters to detain the remaining subject.
