Deaths from Alzheimer’s disease have increased 55 percent in 15 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Patrick Gahan with Pennington Biomedical Research Center says this is the most costly disease we face as a country, and it has no treatment options. But he says Pennington has multiple ongoing drug trials.

Gahan says they’re looking for people over 50 with a family history of Alzheimer’s to participate in the study.

A Texas Girl Scout group is safe after being rescued from Saline Bayou in Natchitoches Parish. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they received an alert from friends and family around 9pm Sunday that a kayaking group of three adults and six juveniles had never returned to their destination..:

Einck says the group was from Texas and unfamiliar with the area.

The Humane Society of Louisiana is seeking information on a man accused of dragging a pit bull behind a truck in Slidell. Director Jeff Dorson says they are not sure if it was intentional, or if the man had it tied up in the back of the truck and it jumped out.

The Humane Society is offering a $1200 reward for information leading to an arrest.

A Thibodaux woman is behind bars after she allegedly went after her ex-girlfriend with a hacksaw. David Melancon with Thibodaux Police says 23-year-old Lechelsea Jenkins cut a male victims while trying to stop her ex from following him. He says Jenkins chased the woman outside.

Melancon says they suspect the motive was jealousy.
