The LSU Tigers are a number four national seed in the NCAA Tournament and they’ll start regional play this Friday at Alex Box Stadium against SWAC Tournament champion Texas Southern. Coach Paul Mainieri says he’s never placed much emphasis on the seeding

The other two teams in the Baton Rouge regional are Southeastern Louisiana and Rice. The Lions are a two seed with a 36-20 record. The Owls received an automatic bid after winning the Conference USA Tournament.

The news was not good for Louisiana Tech, McNeese State and UL Lafayette. Those three teams failed to make the NCAA Tournament.

LSU softball is heading back to the Women’s College World Series after coming back from one game down to beat Florida State in consecutive games to win the super regional series over the Seminoles. It’s the third consecutive trip for the Tigers and the fourth with Head Coach Beth Torina at the helm…

LSU will play UCLA at 1:30 in Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Big news in the golf world as Tiger Woods was arrested in Florida on a DUI charge. The Palm County Sheriff’s office says golf’s former number one player in the world was booked into the county jail at around 7 AM. Police records indicate Woods was arrested in Jupiter.

And longtime Sports Illustrated writer Frank Deford has died at the age of 78. President Obama presented Deford with the National Humanities Medal in 2013.
