Kenny Henderson is out as executive director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Henderson led the L-H-S-A-A, which governs high school athletics, since 2007. His contract was set to expire next summer, but past-president of the LHSAA, Todd Guice, says both sides felt now was the time for a change…

Guice would not say why Henderson will not fill out the remainder of his contract. The search for Henderson’s replacement has already started.

In Thursday’s High School football action…Byrd improved to 8-0 with a 24-17 win over Parkway. Ruston rallied to beat Ouachita 17-14. The number one ranked team in Class 1-A Mangham defeated Ouachita Christian 47-21.

Peyton Manning threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns as the Denver Broncos defeated the San Diego Chargers 35-21 last night in the NFL’s Thursday night match up. The win puts the Broncos at 6-1 this season and they remain in first place in the AFC West.

Saints running backs Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson did not practice yesterday as the team continues preparations for its Sunday night game against Green Bay. Reports earlier in the week said that Thomas would miss a couple of weeks because of a shoulder injury. Robinson has a forearm injury, which could leave the Saints with just Mark Ingram and Travaris Cadet as the two healthy running backs for this weekend.

The New Orleans Pelicans closed out their preseason with an 88-85 victory over the Dallas Mavericks last night at the CentruryLink Center in Bossier City. Tyreke Evans led the Pels with 14 points and 7 rebounds followed by Anthony Davis with 13 points and 6 boards. Gal Mekel lead the Mavs with 17 points. The Pelicans finished the preseason with four straight wins and a 5-2 record. The Pelicans open the regular season Tuesday night at the Smoothie King Center against the Orlando Magic.
