At least two people in the Greater Baton Rouge Area have sustained injuries as a result of tornadic activity. An EF-1 tornado touched down in Baton Rouge, flipping a pickup truck, and sending the driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In Walker, another person was taken to the hospital after a tree fell on a vehicle. Many south Louisiana residents are without power, and there have been reports of dime-sized hail in the area.

A man is behind bars on three counts of attempted murder after a police standoff in Avoyelles Parish. State Trooper Scott Moreau says 35-year-old Brandon Carpenter had a warrant for domestic abuse battery. He says officers pursued the suspect, which led to the standoff.

Mother’s Day spending is expected to reach record highs, according to a survey from the National Retail Federation. NRF spokesperson Anna Serafin Smith says flowers and dinner are popular gifts, and a lot of moms are hoping to get some sparkle on their special day.
