The LSU baseball team is 7-1 after sweeping Maryland this past weekend, but there is some bad news. It appears junior right-hander Doug Norman will miss a considerable amount of time after injuring his arm while throwing a pitch during yesterday’s 9-5 victory. Coach Paul Mainieri says it was tough to watch….

Louisiana Tech’s Nate Harris has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the week. The senior from San Antonio earned a win and had two saves in four games last week. The Bulldogs are 7-0 for the first time in program history after sweeping U-T Arlington.

Southeastern Louisiana took two of three from 21st ranked Rice. The Cajuns won their series over 18th ranked Sam Houston State.

The Pelicans are 0-3 since acquring DeMarcus Cousins in a trade. Oklahoma City beat New Orleans 118 to 110 last night. Cousins was hit with a technical foul 32 seconds into the game and now faces a one-game suspension, because it was his 18th technical of the season. The Pelicans are also in 13th place in the Western Conference, 3.5 games back of Denver for the final playoff spot. The Pels host Detroit on Wednesday.

The girls high school basketball championships begin today in Hammond. Six games are on tap as the Class C, Division Five and Class B state semifinals are settled today. In the Class B semifinals…the defending champs Holden faces top seeded Florien at 6:15.

College basketball…the Ragin Cajuns are at Appalachian State. U-L Lafayette is looking for its fourth straight win and they can even their conference record to 8-8. ULM is at Coastal Carolina and Grambling visits Mississippi Valley State.
