New Orleans is currently 2.5 games back of Denver for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Madison says the trade should put the Pels over the playoff hump.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the All-Star weekend in New Orleans was huge for the city. He says the event generated millions of dollars for The Big Easy, and pointed out that it’s incredible they were able to host such a major sporting occasion even as parades rolled and tornado disaster recovery underway in New Orleans East. An estimated 300,000 people flocked to New Orleans this weekend.

LSU started the season with three wins at home this weekend and remains in the top five in this week’s baseball polls. The Tigers are ranked No. 2 in the Perfect Game Top 25. No. 4 in Baseball America and No. 2 in Collegiate Baseball. Pitcher Jared Poche has been named one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week.

Tonight the Tigers will take on UNO in New Orleans. Sophomore right-hander Caleb Gilbert is slated to start on the mound.

McNeese State Sophomore Nate Fisbeck has been named a National Player of the Week after belting out some of the most impressive numbers across the country with 11 RBIs off five hits.

Last night the SLU/UL-Lafayette game in Hammond was postponed by rain in the 11th inning when the score was 4-4. The contest will resume March 29th.

ULM baseball opens its home schedule today when McNeese comes to town. UL-Lafayette is at Nicholls. Tulane is at Southeastern. Louisiana Tech hosts Little Rock.

College Hoops, LSU coach Johnny Jones says he hopes to end the Tigers losing skid as they host Auburn tonight. The Tigers have lost 13 in a row. Also tonight, Tulane is at East Carolina.
